Election of Student Trustee:
What is it?
When should they be appointed?
Students may have been ousted from board in the past with little warning, so what is the purpose of the representative?
There is a template for a letter from the past that was sent from student council to the student body.
In 2012 September an email was sent as an invite to the position, so it will be forwarded to Student Council. Should we look this over and use it as a template? We can look it over and use it as a starting point.
The next board meeting is in October.
How does voting work? First send email to all students from Student Council (not from an individual), then set a timeline for nominations and “voting”. This could happen either on phone call or at retreat, and a person could be chosen at this time.
Perhaps Susan Wilson could help with this.
This process may need to happen before the retreat because of the timing of the board meeting.
Standard letter to students to ask for nominations by middle of Sept, then come to decision by beginning of Oct
send letter from student council email so we won’t have to take individual responsibility. Will coordinate with Susan Wilson with deadline for nomination Sept 15, and ask for helpfrom Susan sending it out.
we have council meeting on Sept 17 to finish up.
Calls to pinpoint vacant appointments
During retreat we review open positions.
Scribe, Facilitator, Treasurer, Organizer, Newcomer liaison, a few others listed in charter
As of october we need new organizer and newcomer liaison, and other positions will be open. We have had appointed person to reach out, but Susan Wilson wants to know what the open positions are.
: we could contact Susan.
a lot of us are new and don’t know.
do we need to address now, or can we address at retreat?
one member proposes she can update Susan with what she knows, and at retreat is a good idea. At retreat we can discuss burnout and find ways to rotate and reinvent the charter if we want.
Proposal passed.

wrote a letter to students, but no-one responded. Either emails were not read, or no one seems to mind.
Tabled.
Student council retreat:
2 possible weekends. October 12-13 or 19-20. No food service the first weekend, second weekend includes 150th celebration and faculty council.
Proposal: set for the second option, 19-20.
We should send out an email, we have set the dates to 19-20.
Susan W will need a couple folks to help with itinerary.
Roundabout: Barbara Vacarr resignation
it’s interesting. She does not have the wrong idea, but the wrong method. Closure is important. a less aggressive person with the same agenda may be in store.
well said. What she was doing was great, approach was interpreted as antagonistic. Hope for the best for her family. Perhaps we’ll get someone with different perspective. She was trying for both prez and provost, that is crazy making. Maybe it should be 2 jobs.
Don’t have a great deal of perspective, overall a positive thing. would like to see some growth come out, more creative solutions. Would like less animosity between students and staff.
agree. unfortunate about animosity. honestly this is a good thing and wont hurt, the beginning of something better.
was surprised. read letter in airport on the way to residency. People are hopeful, lots of discussion at residency. Negativity affected morale. process to improve communication I hope is put in forefront, an important issue. Hard feelings and negativity were had by all. Hope for forward movement.
interesting. Especially to see how the Goddard community interacts with one another, considering the staff, faculty, alumni, and student body are hardly in one place at one time.
like what other member said about culture, business ideas are progressive, communication is lacking. Communications have improved at end of the last month, constituency appreciates updates. Look forward to new leadership.
